I'm a fan of nicknames.  My entire life, I have been so jealous of people who have managed to be known only by a nickname, sometimes to the point that people don't even know their real name (people like Sting, Bono, The Edge, "Magic" Johnson, and The Rock, to name a few)

But I've always enjoyed nicknames for cities, like Chicago as the Windy City, Nashville as Music City, and Detroit as the Motor City. Nicknames known worldwide are a true testament to a place's reputation.

So, since Michigan is more than just Detroit, I wanted to share some lesser-known nicknames for cities around the state.

Many of these nicknames come from this post on the r/Michigan subreddit, and across its over 1,000 comments, these were the most commonly repeated nicknames. The most common trend, curiously, is throwing -tucky on the end of a place: Ypsitucky, Taylortucky, Cedartucky, and more.
