Don't get me wrong, I've loved the warmer temperatures we've had so far this fall in Grand Rapids. But one thing they're not great for? Ice skating. Luckily, with colder weather moving in, we can (hopefully) lace up our skates again soon.

When Does Rosa Parks Circle Open For Ice Skating in 2025?

The City of Grand Rapids has shared the 2025 opening date for the Rosa Parks Circle Ice Rink: Friday, Dec. 5, weather permitting.

Once it opens, the rink at 135 Monroe Center St. NW downtown Grand Rapids will be open daily through February—conditions allowing, of course.

How to Skate

Just like recent seasons, you can either walk up or reserve a skate time online at Rosa Parks Circle. Reservations open here Dec. 1. Each session allows up to 50 reservations, and one person can book for up to six household members. Reservations close 48 hours in advance, with new dates added throughout the season.

Cost and Skate Rental

  • Ages 17 and under: $3
  • Adults 18 and older: $6
  • 10-hole punch card: $22 (youth admission = one punch, adult admission = two punches)

Admission includes skate rental, with sizes ranging from toddler 8 through men’s 15. Both cash and cards are accepted.

Hours and Holiday Schedule

Once open for the season, ice skating hours are noon to 7:30p.m. Sunday through Thursday, 10a.m. to 9p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The rink is:

  • Closed Christmas Day
  • Open Christmas Eve
  • Open New Year’s Eve
  • Open New Year’s Day
  • Open MLK Day
  • Open Valentine’s Day
