Michigan falls under the Inland Northern accent that covers the Lower Peninsula. The Upper Peninsula is also Inland Northern but has a variation often called the Yooper accent.

What is the Difference Between Michigan and Yooper Accents?
There is a discussion on Michigan's Reddit page about two distinct accents in Michigan, Inland Northern and Yooper. Inland Northern covers Michigan, Western New York, Illinois, Cleveland Ohio, and Southeastern Wisconsin including Milwaukee. All of the states listed have variations of accents.
The initial post came from the Reddit poster "RoyalRenn" asking what is the difference between the Michigan and Yooper accents.
Posters "edkarls" and "RoyalRenn" have a pretty solid discussion on the variations of the Michigan accents in this section of the Reddit thread. It was "travelingisdumb" poster that was the first to point out the Yooper accent sounds like a Canadian accent.
There is a way Michiganders say the "R" that is unique to the state. You can hear it when Governor Gretchen Witmere speaks when it comes to the Michigan accent.
Reddit poster "Teacher-Investor" pointed out the Yooper accent is similar in northern Wisconsin and Minnesota. Throughout the thread, several people that point out the Finnish settlers influence the Yooper accent.
Michiganders have an accent whether they live in the Upper or Lower Peninsulas.
