West Michigan thrill-seekers caught some waves in Grand Haven by surfing in October.

Growing up watching the original Hawaii Five-O on TV made me want to surf as a kid.

Then I grew up and realized it is probably better to live in Hawaii or California to learn to surf.
Now I am much older and would not think of getting on a surfboard in the ocean after seeing all those Jaws movies.
Every year I hear about the guys who surf on Lake Superior. You see these guys in wetsuits with frozen beards and we think they are nuts. They might be but they love it.

Some guys in West Michigan love catching waves in Lake Michigan and recently took advantage of the warm weather in late October.
October Surfing in Grand Haven
When the weather is 80, winds are high, the waves are up in Lake Michigan, and surfers gather along the lakeshore in Grand Haven.
This is not something a novice or first-timer should be trying but if you are an experienced surfer and have a wet suit make for cold water temperatures the waves are in Grand Haven.
It doesn't take much of a wave to get a surfer going in these types of conditions.
Surfers gathered in Grand Haven excited about what the weather brought them.

According to WOOD, Grand Haven surfer Mike Smith said, “The fall is generally our surf season with a lot of north and south winds kind of back and forth, so I might surf 20 times a month this time of year." It sounds insane but watching the video it sure looks fun.
