Back in July, the intersection of Division Avenue and Fulton Street in downtown Grand Rapids was closed for construction work.
Initially, if everything went smoothly, it was anticipated that the intersection would reopen sometime in October.
However, due to some issues that were discovered, the timeline has now been extended.
What Issues Were Found During Construction Work on Division and Fulton?
If you've ever undertaken a home project, you know that even the best-laid plans can go awry.
In the case of the Division and Fulton intersection, things were proceeding well until it came time to install the new traffic signal foundations.
Fox 17's Robb Westaby reached out to Grand Rapids Media Relations Manager Steve Guitar, who explained:
“The contractor installing the new traffic signal foundations at Division/Fulton encountered old areaway walls below grade at two of the corners, which have caused delays.”

With this latest delay, the intersection is now expected to open on November 11th at the earliest.
As someone who has had to take a detour to get to work, I am looking forward to the completion of this construction project.
