Detroit Tigers Double-A Team Gets Wild New Name
Most of the time when Michigan ends up in the national spotlight it seems to be for something that is bad

But recently something involving the Detroit Tigers organization made national news and you can't help but smile when you see it.
The Erie Seawolves located in Erie, Pennsylvania are the Detroit Tigers’ Double-A affiliate.
The team is staying in Erie but is getting a new alternate identity thanks to comedian John Oliver and his show HBO’s Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.
Erie Seawolves New Alternate Name
Earlier this year in May Oliver put out a call on his weekly show to rebrand a minor league baseball team and he ended up selecting the Erie Seawolves.
There was just one catch, the team could have no say in what Oliver and his show came up with.
That gamble paid off because the team's alternative name is really awesome and has a connection to something that happened in a nearby lake.

The new alternative name for the Erie Seawolves is the Erie Moon Mammoths.
The name has ties to something that happened back in 1991.
George Moon was scuba diving in Lake Pleasant Lake when he came across a giant bone that was later found to be the shoulder blade of mammoth that lived almost 12,000 years ago.
Eventually nearly 80% of the mammoths bones were located and the locals name it the Moon Mammoths after the man that found the first bone.
The teams new name will debut on Saturday, July 19th at UPMC Park, Along with their new mascot — Fuzz E. Mammoth.
