It's been harder and harder to buy a home since the pandemic, no matter what part of the country you live in. My co-host and friend Big Joe had to bid for dozens of homes that were snatched up right under him by people paying way over asking price and in cash before he finally found his home just over a year ago.

And, it's made me a little reluctant to join in finding my own first home. Thankfully, I rent a cute house and my landlords are keeping our rent reasonable, but one day my husband and I would love to own our own home to raise our son in.

And while the housing market is starting to cool off in many places across the country, it seems that the Grand Rapids is still one of the most difficult cities in America to buy a home.

According to Redfin, Grand Rapids home prices are currently up 7.1% compared to last year, and selling for a median price of $280K. They also only stay on the market for an average of 7 days, meaning if you see something- you better snag it quick or it may be gone before you have a chance to make that call.

Housing prices have also been steadily growing over the past 5 years, going up nearly $100,000 on average compared to what they were worth at the end of 2018.

So if you feel like it's an uphill battle to own your own real estate in Grand Rapids, you're not wrong. And experts don't know if the trend will be cooling off soon to follow the national average. So, the sooner you can find something, it seems the better off you'll be. Good luck, and happy house hunting.
