Michigan Christmas Program PSA: Can We Find A Better Way?

Christmas is a little over a week away, and lots of kiddos across Michigan have been putting a lot of time and effort into getting ready for their school's big Christmas programs.

There is something I noticed the other night while attending my niece's Christmas program that I would love to address and see if we can find a better way for future Christmas programs.

Can we find a better way for parents and families to capture their kid's performances?

I got to attend my niece Hadleigh's Christmas program the other night at Fair Haven Church in Hudsonville. The stage looked amazing and you could tell that the students and music teachers put in a lot of time and effort for this special night.

The kids were so cute and sounded good but one thing that bothered me, and I wish we could find a better way, is the number of parents and family members whipping out their phones and recording the performances and taking pictures.

I understand that everyone wants to capture these special moments, but the problem is that while you're trying to capture that perfect moment you're actually missing out on it. Another problem is people behind you are having their view obstructed or completely blocked by you and your camera or cell phone.

Here's My Suggestion For Doing Things Differently

This is going to cost some money but I think it's worth it.

What if we hired a professional photographer to capture the Christmas programs and the pictures would then be available for people to have?

When it comes to video could we just set up a professional camera and have it synced up with the soundboard, so you can have quality audio of the performance and also have a nice steady view instead of grandma trying her best to keep her iPad from shaking while she records from the back of the room?

My ideas are nothing new, but I think it would be wonderful for people to actually be present in the moment and also not interfere with other people trying to do the same.
