No doubt the brick and mortar segment of the retail industry is struggling. People are shopping online so much that they are not visiting their favorite stores for in-store shopping, and it's been especially difficult for the home good market.

Bed Bath & Beyond, one of the leaders in home goods, has said they are on track to close 150 stores as they struggle financially. They have tried many things including initiating a new merchandising and inventory strategy in the third quarter. But goals weren't met so they have decided that some stores must go.

So, how does that affect Michigan, and especially West Michigan and Grand Rapids.

Of the 150 stores slated to close, 10 are in Michigan, most are in South East Michigan, Farmington Hills, Northville, Auburn Hills, Ann Arbor, and more, but sadly, closer to home, a Lansing store will close. Here at home in West Michigan a Muskegon store on Harvey Street will be closed, and a Grand Rapids store, actually in Walker in Green Ridge Square, is on the chopping block as well. The rest of our local stores, so far, are okay. But the eventual closing of the Green Ridge Square store on Alpine will certainly be a blow.

Bed Bath & Beyond didn't indicate exactly when each of these stores will close, but it will be this year with the hope that as they reorganize and change the product mix, more people will return to their stores and that this will be the last of their store closings.
