Spring is here, and the snow may be gone for the year. It's Michigan, you know, so anything is still possible. However, Winter always brought great fun in the snow and wonderful childhood memories of sledding. When you were young, where did you go?

I didn't grow up in Grand Rapids, so my childhood memories are from Muncie, Indiana. Not too helpful in our discussion, but when my kids were young we were living on the West Side on Oakleigh Avenue and we always went over the Union High School Hill.

It was a big hill which was great. It was steep, there's a plateau, and then there's a second hill. It's the sledding hill to end all sledding hills West Siders say. I agree! Going down was wonderful, but the trudge back up the hill for another run not so wonderful.

As so many people have talked about their favorite place to sled, Richmond Park seems to have been the place to go. We did go over there as well when our kids were little.

People loved Pinery Park for wonderful sledding.

Kent Country Club on the Northeast side was a favorite. People would slip in the back gate back then. The best hill at Kent was Dead Man's Hill folks said. Not sure if there is any sledding allowed there now, but many folks said it was so fun because of the variety of hills.

You can't forget Highland Park. Great sledding hill there, too.

You know, today with our changeable weather, snow one day, green grass the next, I imagine it's been tougher for kids to find a good reliable sledding hill.

Oh well. Just wait 'till next winter. Right now, I'll get ready for sunshine, flowers, the beach, boating and golf!
