Hard to Kill Destructive Asian Pest Now Invading Michigan Homes!
Mosquitos, spiders, bed bugs, stink bugs and all kind of creepy crawlers invade our homes each year. We deal with them, sort of, and cringe when we run into a beg bug, stink bug or spider.
Now there is a new creepy crawler for us to worry about and it is very difficult to kill.
Welcome the Spotted Lanternfly.
👇 BELOW: 9 MOST DEADLY INSECTS IN MICHIGAN! 👇
The Spotted Lanternfly is invasive and destructive. It moved into the Detroit metro area in 2022 and has been making it's way west every since.
The good news here is that the Spotted Lanternfly is harmless to humans, but for plants, watch out, it's deadly to plants and trees.
It is also tricky to kill. If one invades your house it's quick and will hop. Insecticide probably won't work so squishing them is about the only way. Good luck!
But, why is it deadly? Because it will suck the sap from trees. They can cause significant damage to parks and other wooded areas, damaging a tree, weakening it, which make the tree susceptible to disease and other invasive insects. Yuck!
Ironically, the Spotted Lanternfly loves the Tree of Heaven, which is also an invasive species.
Fox2 in Detroit reported the Tree of Heaven is a fast growing tree, with a huge root system, not allowing other trees to grow, and is dangerous to humans. It can cause nausea and heart problems.
There is some good news here. The Spotted Lanternfly doesn't seem to much like other trees other than the Tree of Heaven and it will kill them.
There is a certain irony here. A destructive and invasive little bug that seemingly only loves the invasive tree, the Tree of Heaven.
Nature at it's best!
