Ford Field in Detroit Named ‘Least Safe’ for Female Football Fans

Going to a sporting event should be a fun experience. A great memory making (if expensive) outing for a family. But would you reconsider attendance at a game if you didn't feel safe? A survey of football fans ranked Detroit's Ford Field dead last of all 32 NFL stadiums when it comes to female fans feeling secure at a game.

The survey comes from Sportbooks Review and shared on the NFL subreddit on Reddit. The study surveyed fans looking for the worst stadiums based on first hand expeirence and also comparing local crime statistics for most dangerous staidum

When the question was asked to women, "do you feel comfortable alone at or around your team's stadium" the league average was 44% uncomfortable and 56% comfortable. Detroit ranked lowest at 73.7% of women reporting they felt uncomfortable alone. The next closes was 62% uncomfortable rate at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis and 62.5% uncomfortable at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Ford Field also ranked lowest when men were asked the same question about the women in their family. In response to the question "would you feel comfortable leaving a female partner or family member along at or around your team's stadium" 73.9% of respondents said no when referring to Ford Field. The league average was 51% not comfortable and 49% comfortable.

Safety at Ford Field Perception vs Reality

Fans were very quick to defend Ford Field and believe the stadium gets a bad rap due to outdated perceptions about downtown Detroit. On Reddit fans pointed out:

I just visited downtown Detroit for a battery conference, it is totally empty after 7:30pm. Hard to feel unsafe when no one is within 10 blocks of me.
