Dum-Dum Lollipops Celebrates Its 100th Anniversary
Everybody has had at least one Dum-Dum in their lives...and I'm not referring to some distant relative. It's the lollipop.
Dum-Dums celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2024, solidifying its stature in the candy industry. Millions of Dum-Dums are made each day in their factory in Bryan, Ohio, about 15 miles south of the Michigan border.
Dum-Dums were created by the Akron Candy Company, in Bellevue, Ohio, in 1924. Why the name “Dum-Dums”? A company executive thought that name was easy for kids to pronounce and remember.

In 1953 the Spangler Candy purchased Dum-Dums from Akron Candy and moved the business to Bryan, Ohio, where it remains to this day.
In 1966 the Dum-Dum Drum Man mascot made his first appearance. He was created to enhance public recognition of Dum-Dums.
Dum-Dums are recognized as being free of gluten, dairy, nuts, eggs, fish, and shellfish.
Just how many millions of Dum-Dums are made each and every day? 12 million. Bryan is now considered the Lollipop Capital of the World.
Next Halloween, be sure to look into your kids' Trick or Treat bags...there will more than likely be some Dum-Dums.
