10 Famous WMU Broncos Who May Want That Second Back
Western Michigan University (WMU) has produced some seriously famous people, including actors, athletes, musicians, business heavyweights and people you’ve probably watched on TV or the big screen without realizing they once called Kalamazoo home.

And after what happened against the University of Michigan, those Broncos may suddenly have something else in common: wondering where in the heck that extra second came from.
Western Michigan's One-Second Nightmare
On September 5, 2026, Western Michigan appeared to have stunned Michigan in Ann Arbor, leading 12-7 when the clock hit zero. Start celebrating, right? Nay nay.
After "replay review," Big Ten officials put one second back on the clock, ruling that a WMU defender who had established himself out of bounds touched Michigan's first Hail Mary attempt with time remaining. Michigan then used its bonus second, this time completing the Hail Mary, "winning" 13-12, and storming the field after beating a MAC team. Stay classy, Ann Arbor.
The WMU-Michigan Controversy Isn't Over
The MAC later appealed to the NCAA and College Football Playoff (CFP), arguing the replay crew relied on a timing feed that wasn't properly synchronized and asking that Western Michigan be treated as the winner for ranking and playoff purposes. The NCAA says it has no mechanism to overturn the official result. Uh-huh, sure.
