If you spend any time outside in the summer in Michigan, you've probably been bitten by a mosquito or two. Heck, you could be like me and get bitten by LOTS of mosquitoes.

Mosquitoes in Michigan

But regardless of how many times you are bitten, everyone has a different reaction. And I was on TikTok recently where I learned that my adverse reaction to mosquito bites isn't abnormal. It has a name; Skeeter syndrome.

If you're one of those lucky people who aren't bothered by mosquito bites, first of all, you stink and I'm completely jealous of you. But second of all, you aren't particularly bothered by mosquitoes, you've probably never heard of Skeeter syndrome".

What is Skeeter Syndrome?

To be fair, I had never heard of Skeeter syndrome before. That was until I saw a video that @mommacusses made on TikTok.

@mommacusses makes content around being a mom and her kids. In the video I saw, she was looking for an answer as to why her child was having such a bad reaction to mosquito bites. So a certified allergist came to the rescue with an answer. See what he had to say about this bad reaction.

So at the end of the day, almost everyone reacts to being bitten by a mosquito, but it's those with Skeeter Syndrome who have an abnormal reaction and puff and swell like the little kid in the video.

I know one time I was bitten in the middle of my forehead on the way into the house from the car, and in that short amount of time, I had a puffy welt the size of a half dollar on my head.

Should I Worry About "Skeeter Syndrome"?

Unless you or someone you care for has Skeeter Syndrome, you don't need to be anymore concerned with mosquitoes than you already are. However, if you think you have Skeeter Syndrome, seek advice from your doctor or allergist on how to care for it. The doctor in the @mommacusses video had some tips for you as well!

In the meantime, if you'd like some help in fighting the mosquitoes off, here are some plants that will help you do the trick.
