Amazing Outhouse Classic is the Best Michigan Event You’ve Never Heard Of
Our first thought when discovering this amazing festival... er, race... was: Why doesn't Flint or Detroit do anything this cool?
Way up in the middle of Michigan's Upper Peninsula there's 30+ year, unique, tradition.
The Trenary Outhouse Classic
On the northwestern edge of Hiawatha National Forest an annual contest of homemade outhouses on ski's happens on the main drag in front of Silver Dollar Bar in Trenary, Michigan.
If you're not into building your own outhouse, bring your best fur hat. There's a contest for that, too.
People of all ages compete in various categories with very punny names.
- Squirts (ages 5-8)
- Squeakers (ages 9-12)
- Dingleberries (ages 13-17)
- Stinkers (ages 18-35)
- Da Sharts (ages 36-49)
- Old Farts (50+ years)
Part of the joy in this annual tradition is the juvenile creativity, no matter your age.
Team names are equally entertaining.
Some of last year's race team names will make you giggle.
- Vladischmear Poo-Tin
- Streaked Lightning
- Toxic Turds
- The Runs
- Dewey's Dumpers
- Poop Scootin' Boogey
- The Hot Box
- Team Poop on Cancer does it for a cause, too.
Did we mention people as far as Florida and Texas join their friends in Michigan to compete?

The race theme is changed annually.
When is Trenary Outhouse Classic 2024?
There's still time to join in the fun. This year's event is Saturday February 24, 2024.
Whether you choose to participate by building an outhouse creation or simply spectate, don't forget there's merch to skidmark the occasion, too.
From hoodies and hats to coozies, you'll remember the crappiest good time you've ever had with friends and family.
That is, unless you win the outhouse trophy. You'll cherish that forever.
