Karrueche Tran Apologizes for Tweet Calling Lean “Lame” Following Fredo Santana’s Death
Rap fans were quick to jump at Karrueche Tran after the model-actress called lean "lame" following Fredo Santana's death last Friday (Jan. 19). Now she's stepped forth to apologize.
In a now-deleted tweet, Tran wrote, "LEAN IS WEAK AF #lame #corny #sorrynotsorry." A very short time after the tweet went up, Twitter users criticized the 29-year-old for her perceived insensitivity, believing it was too soon after the Chicago rapper's death to deliver that sort of PSA. Santana, who's death was caused by a fatal seizure, was a known lean user.
Responding to the backlash, Karrueche says she wasn't trying to hurt anyone's feelings. "That totally came out the wrong way," she wrote Saturday morning (Jan. 20). "Wasn't tryna offend anyone. I meant it in general terms. Bad timing."
After another Twitter user asked why she was offering an apology, Karrueche made it clear she believed in what she tweeted but the timing was unfortunate.
"What I said was 1000% true. It was bad timing and seemed directed towards Fredo (RIP) which it wasn’t at all," she wrote.
Prior to his tragic death at the age of only 27, Fredo had spoken candidly about his addiction to lean, and had been hospitalized for liver and kidney failure. Those afflictions, along with seizures, are side effects often associated with the drug concoction, which is a cocktail of cough syrup, promethazine and often times, a citrus-flavored drink.
