High school student Tiona Cordova won first place in the 3rd District Congressional Art Competition for her work "Utmost Appreciation" and as a result, her painting will now hang in the U.S. Capitol for one year. The other cool thing about her win? Her painting is of Kendrick Lamar.

It's only fitting that K. Dot will hang in the U.S. Capitol. As he said on "Humble"— "Obama just paged me... I don't fabricate it"— so you know his connections to Washington run deep.

All jokes aside, this is a major accomplishment for Cordova. Every year the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Once a winner is selected they are recognized in their district and at an annual awards ceremony in Washington D.C. The winning pieces are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.

“These students have remarkable, artistic abilities and I am always incredibly proud of the artwork they produce every year,” Tipton said. “The panel of judges has a tough task of selecting a winner, as the works submitted are all worthy of appreciation and demonstrate impressive skill."

All participants received a certificate of recognition. Cordova will also receive airfare to Washington D.C to attend the Congressional Institutes Awards Reception on June 29, 2017.
