Lake Macatawa to Get Increased Environmental Monitoring in 2020

Lake Macatawa will receive increased monitoring for contaminants in fish, algae growth, E. coli and other issues in 2020.

West Michigan's Macatawa Watershed, which includes Lake Macatawa, the Macatawa River and its tributaries, will all be part of the increased monitoring in 2020.

Outdoor Discovery explains, "A watershed is the area of land where all of the water that is under it or drains off of it goes into the same place."

The increased monitoring by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy is part of an initiative to monitor areas of Michigan's watershed system on a five-year rotation.

The Macatawa Watershed covers approximately 110,000 acres in Ottawa and Allegan counties.
