You Can Buy A Piece of the Original Mackinac Bridge…But There’s A Catch
The Mackinac Bridge Authority is auctioning off sections of the original Mighty Mac- be sure you know what you may be taking home.
It's sure to be a conversation piece the whole neighborhood will be talking about, trolls and yoopers alike. You can buy a piece of steel grating from the original deck of the Mackinac Bridge. Seven lots in all are up for auction but here's the thing: each piece is 5 1/2' long and x 38' wide. At 5 inches deep, each section weighs TWO TONS.
The auction ends April 19 & 20, so be sure to get your bids in. If it helps, the Mackinac Bridge Authority has agreed to make one cut to make it easier to transport and will load the purchase but is not responsible for securing the load (or adding those little red flags).
These of course are pieces of the bridge across the straits, not pieces of the never-built but surveyed bridge to Mackinac Island.
