Many West Michigan schools are in need of bus drivers.

According to WOOD, many school districts in the region are experiencing a shortage of bus drivers and schools are having a hard time finding new drivers.

If you are interested in driving a school bus and meet the requirements for the position, Rockford Public Schools are looking to hire.

Rockford Public Schools Superintendent Michael Shibler said, it's an issue he has dealt with for many years now and it seems it's the worst it's ever been.

Belding Area Schools Superintendent Brent Noskey said,"When we get into a pinch is when a driver gets sick or two drivers get sick and you're also trying to get sports teams to their events and field trips. Many times my own transportation director has to go out and drive, and that leaves us shorthanded in the office."

Here are a list of schools in West Michigan that need drivers: Cedar Springs, Grand Rapids, Kent City, Kent and Ottawa Area Intermediate, Muskegon, Muskegon Heights, Reeths-Puffer, Sparta and Tri-County Area Schools.

To qualify for the position of bus driver, you need to have a commercial driver's license. You have to do an FBI fingerprint check, Michigan State Police criminal background check, motor vehicle driving record check, sex offender registry check and Department of Transportation physical.
