MI DNR Investigating Shooting of A Bald Eagle In Manistee Co
Over the weekend a hunter in Manistee County shot a bald eagle and now Michigan DNR is investigating the incident to see if it was intentional or an accident, according to UpNorthLive.
The eagle was said to be around 2-3 years old, the sanctuary Wings of Wonder, where DNR took the bird to, said. Sadly, they also said the bird had fractures in both of its wings and had to be put down.
The DNR investigation continues as they figure out whether one of the two waterfowl hunters who shot the eagle, did it accidentally or if it was intentional as UpNorthLive reports.
Bald eagles are protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act even though they are no longer considered an Endangered Species, as stated on the U.S. Fish and Wildlife website.
The Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act says that:
...civil penalties for violating provisions of the Act to a maximum fine of $5,000 or one-year imprisonment with $10,000 or not more than two years in prison for a second conviction. Felony convictions carry a maximum fine of $250,000 or two years of imprisonment.
