Have you visited this Northern Michigan campground?

Platte River Campground in Honor, Mich. is in the running for "Favorite Campground in the U.S." in a USA Today and 10Best Readers' Poll.

To be honest, I'm surprised there's only Mitten State campground in the running, considering all of the awesome ones we have here in Michigan!

The 20 campgrounds in the running have been chosen by a panel outdoor adventure and road trip experts along with the 10Best editors. And now it's up to a public vote!

Here's USA Today's praise for Platte River Campground,

Platte River Campground is located within walking distance of both the river and the beaches of Lake Michigan, within the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore on the lower peninsula of Michigan. Each campsite has a fire ring and picnic table, with restrooms and showers available in each camp section. For more primitive campers, the White Pine "backcountry" campground is available on a nearby trail.

The National Park Service says they've heard Platte River Campground referred to as "the Cadillac of all campgrounds".

In terms of amenities, Platte River Campground also trash/ recycling collection, Internet connectivity, food storage lockers, firewood for sale, picnic shelters, a fish cleaning station, grills, and an amphitheater.

The campground's location makes it ideal for folks who want to hike, canoe, kayak, swim, bike, and fish -- or just take in the gorgeous Michigan landscape!
