Four Michigan Cities Voted Most Dangerous Cities In The United States
In 2023, a report was released that detailed 100 of the most dangerous cities in the entire country.
Unfortunately for Michigan, we were embarrassed in four different ways.
Neighborhood Scout used their research to share
"the 100 most dangerous cities in America with 25,000 or more people, based on the number of violent crimes per 1,000 residents. Violent crimes include rape, armed robbery, and aggravated assault. The data used for this research are the number of violent crimes reported to have occurred in each city, and the population of each city."
Michigan's Most Dangerous Cities
There are four cities that made the top 20 on Neighborhood Scout's list for the most dangerous cities in the country.
Two of them are right here in West Michigan.
Coming in at number 4 is the city of Saginaw. Saginaw's violent crime rate (per 1,000 residents) is 26.3 and the chance of being a victim is 1 in 38.
Only two spots away at number 6 is the city of Detroit. Detroit's violent crime rate (per 1,000 residents) is 23.0 and the chance of being a victim is 1 in 43.
This was a shocker to me but maybe not to you. With a violent crime rate (per 1,000 residents) of 16.8 and the chance of being a victim is 1 in 59, the city of Kalamazoo has taken the 12th spot.
Almost rounding out the top 20 list is the city of Lansing, where it is ranked at #17. The capital city has a violent crime rate of 15.7 and the chance of being a victim is 1 in 63.
