One of the most famous Dark Sky Parks in the country is Headlands International Dark Sky Park. Luckily for us locals, we can travel to Mackinaw City whenever we see fit.

Located along the shores of Lake Michigan, Headlands has unobstructed views of the night sky. On especially clear Michigan nights, you may even catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights.

If Valentine's Day is not your vibe, Headland International Dark Sky Park is open 24/7, making it an ideal spot for a late-night date adventure any day of the year.

Tucked away in southwest Michigan, this internationally recognized Dark Sky Park is another option for an intimate setting for stargazing, which is perfect for a late-night date.

Rockport State Recreation Area (Alpena)

For couples who love a mix of adventure and romance, Rockport offers the chance to do both.

"This 4,237-acre park, just north of Alpena, offers a unique blend of history and outdoor adventure. Visitors can explore the remnants of the 300-acre quarry, alongside limestone formations, unique sinkholes and a protected natural area. Located in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Keweenaw Dark Sky Park has some of the clearest skies in the state in my personal opinion.

Plus, its northern location increases your chances of witnessing the Aurora Borealis. Who doesn't want to see the Aurora Borealis?

Tips for a Cozy and Romantic Night Outdoors

• Dress warmly: You know these Michigan winters are cold. They are even worse at night so layer up with insulated clothing, gloves, and blankets. Plus, it makes it even cozier to be bundle up with your significant other
• Bring a telescope or binoculars: While the naked eye can give you enough, a telescope enhances the experience in a whole new way.
• Pack warm drinks and snacks: On the same idea of dressing warmly, a thermos of hot chocolate, coffee, or even mulled wine can keep you warm from the inside out and add to the romance.
