Burn Hazard Alert For Michigan Stanley Cup Fans: Check Your Mugs Now!
The Stanley cup girlies are not going to like this one.
After all of the in-store fighting, late nights to grab the latest one and more, unfortunately, your beloved stainless mug may be a hazard to you.
Stanley Recall
Stanley announced a global recall on 2.6 million of its steel cups.
This recall was activated due to concerns about loose lids leading to people suffering dozens of burn injuries.
AP states that "the company said that the mug's lid threads can shrink when exposed to heat and torque, causing the lid to detach during use, posing a burn hazard."
In a statement from the Consumer Product Safety Commission, this recall affects "all Stanley Switchback and Trigger Action stainless steel travel mugs sold in the United States" from June 2016 through December 2024.
Stanley Cups Affected By Recall
- Switchback
- 12 ounces - 20-01437
- 16 ounces - 20-01436, 20-02211
- Trigger Action

- 20 ounces - 20-02034, 20-02746
The company received 91 reports, with 16 from the United States, about the mugs' "lids detaching during use, resulting in 38 burn injuries worldwide, including two burn injuries in the U.S., with 11 consumers worldwide requiring medical attention."
The stainless steel cups that have caused a frenzy throughout the country were sold on Amazon, and at Walmart, Dick's Sporting Goods, Target, and various other stores nationwide and online.
