Reddit's Detroit Scratch & Sniff
A Reddit user, Secretrapbattle, sparked an interesting and unique conversation.
In their thread, they jokingly suggested that the smell would be "sewer gas," based on their personal experiences driving around the city with the vents open.
"To me, it would smell like sewer gas. That’s from driving all over the city and most of the time having the vents on the car open to draw in outside air. Just my experience. But that’s why I need you. Use your imagination and what would your Detroit scratch and sniff sticker smell like?"
Several other Reddit users shared their thoughts on Detroit having a scratch-and-sniff sticker.
Some of the ideas included:
- Rock & Rye
- Vernors
- Coney Island after a night of drinking
- Black n Mild and Sweat
- Kush (many users shared this same thought)

Grand Rapids Scratch & Sniff
After seeing the Reddit users' ideas for Detroit, it made me think about other Michigan cities.
After all, if Detroit can have one, why not Grand Rapids?
If Grand Rapids had its own scratch-and-sniff sticker, here is what I would think it would smell like.
With Grand Rapids being known as "Beer City USA," one of the stickers would smell like hops, malt, and barley to reflect the city's craft beer scene.
If the smell of beer is not your speed, you might want to try the 'Lake Breeze' option. The 'Lake Breeze' is an ode to Lake Michigan and the different bodies of water within the Grand Rapids and West Michigan area.
It would have a slight hint of fresh air with a mix of saltwater and sand from the lakeshore.
