I recently moved to the edge of Alger Heights off 28th street, and I love my neighborhood. We have so many wonderful places to eat including Real Food Café, The Old Goat, and Heights Cream.

But in the morning when I want a cup of coffee, I find myself driving 5-10 minutes away just to grab something to get me going. It feels so weird that there's no coffee shop in the area, that I've even daydreamed once or twice about how nice it would be to open my own coffee shop in the area.

But, my day dreams don't have to become my own burden to bring to life thanks to a new coffee shop that has scouted a spot just down the street off 28th street, with plans to bring to life a long abandoned empty lot.

Where is the Biggby Coffee going to be located? at 2910 Eastern Ave. SE, just south of 28th Street.

It will be located next door to Autozone and Platinum Hair Salon, and the lot is already lined up perfectly for a drive thru, meaning hopefully the building and opening of this location will be quick and easy.

According to plans, they will build an 800-square-foot building that will be a no seat location. The new Biggby Coffee drive-thru will include 10 parking spaces for visitors and employees, additional bicycle parking and a walk-up window for ordering drinks.

What used to be at this location?

This location was previously a Hot 'N Now drive thru.

If you asking what a Hot 'N Now is according to wikipedia, "Hot 'n Now was founded in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1984 by William Van Domelen. Van Domelen had opened the first Michigan Wendy's restaurants and a franchisee of Burger Chef in Southwest Michigan. By 1990, the chain operated more than 100 stores in 15 different states" but now only the Sturgis, Michigan location remains if you want to see what was.

When will they be open?

The location will take a few months to build, so there is no date set for it's opening yet. However, when the location does open they'll have hours from 5am to 10pm, daily.

Welcome to the neighborhood, Biggby. We're excited to have you.
