It was a good news/bad news holiday weekend for a new restaurant in West Michigan as high customer demand exceeded food supplies in the kitchen forcing to restaurant to close for a couple of days.

It was like ArtPrize 2009 all over again. At the inaugural ArtPrize in downtown Grand Rapids restaurants were not prepared for the massive crowds and many ran out of food. This time it happened over Memorial Day weekend at West Michigan's newest restaurant and brewery, Alebird Taphouse and Brewery, in Byron Center.

Alebird held their grand opening on Friday. A busy start led to an announcement on Facebook early Sunday morning that they would be closing for two days "in order to regroup, restock, and iron out some wrinkles."

This sign was posted on the door on Sunday.

Closed for two days.
