No Tailgating at Eastern Market for Lions Monday Night Football Game
A pre-game pride tradition is on hold due to senseless violence.
If you are planning to attend the next Monday football game for the Detroit Lions, you need to know that tailgating is canceled.
What Happened at Eastern Market?
On Sunday, September 15th, 2024, Rayshawn Bryant and Jalen Welch were shot and killed at Shed 6 after the Detroit Lions game in Eastern Market.
An Oak Park man was arrested but it is still unknown if he knew the victims or caused the fight to happen, which led to these two deaths.
No charges have been filed at this time.
As of our publication date, an investigation into the shooting is still ongoing.
No Tailgate at Eastern Market
In the wake of Sunday's shooting, the organizers for Eastern Market announced that they are canceling tailgating for the upcoming Detroit Lions' Monday Night Football game.
But it is only a temporary cancellation.
In a statement, the Eastern Market Corporation shared that the suspension will only affect the September 30th game against the Seattle Seahawks.
However, a change will be taking effect at Eastern Market after the suspension.
Once tailgating is back, the Eastern Market complex will be a weapons-free zone.
"Following the pause on September 30th, we intend to resume the tailgating tradition for the remainder of the season after enacting additional and significant security protocols that will be communicated to the public in advance."
Due to this announcement, many Lions fans are wondering how this "weapons-free area" will be enforced.
In a Reddit thread, many users are sharing their concerns on whether Eastern Market will be able to enforce these rules if people are carrying concealed weapons.
