Expect a major slowdown as you head into Grand Rapids this weekend. The Michigan Department of Transportation has confirmed the new dates for a total closure of northbound US-131.

The closure was originally planned for last weekend, but was postponed. This morning, MDOT says the $300,000 project to improve the US-131 bridges over Plaster Creek between Burton St. and 28th St. will begin with northbound US-131 closing at 28th St. at 9 p.m. on Friday, March 9. The estimated time US-131 will reopen is 5 a.m. on Monday, March 12.

Traffic will be detoured at 28th St. The detour routes are M-6 and I-196.

Southbound US-131 is scheduled to close later this month at Burton St. Those closure dates have been pushed back to March 23 - 26.
