What is a Photovoltaic Power Station?

When I used to go bear hunting in Canada, we would travel to Port Huron, Michigan, to cross the Blue Water Bridge. Once we crossed the bridge and got out into the farmland that led to Toronto is the first time I heard the term Photovoltaic Power Station.

A Photovoltaic Power Station has a few other names like solar park and solar farm. These are basically large-scale grids meant to supply power to communities.

Often when you see these solar parks or farms, you will also see fields of windmills that are also being used to power nearby communities.

As my friends and I would be traveling toward Toronto on our bear hunting trips you would see tons of solar and windmill farms. It turns out those farms power the city of Toronto which is pretty amazing since it is a very large city in Canada.

Why Walk Away From Farming Crops?

There is nothing wrong with growing normal crops like corn, soybean, beans, potatoes, wheat, and all of the other crops our state and country need.

There is no doubt that farms are important to feeding families in Michigan, the rest of the U.S., and other countries around the world.

It costs a lot of money to run a farm and the equipment these days. Not to mention the ridiculous price of gas alone is going to raise the cost of vegetables and groceries.

Maybe as a farmer, you have been thinking of switching to a new less expensive product to raise or even thinking of retiring, why not make money off your land as a solar farm?

Consumers Energy Looking to Partner With Landowners on Solar Power Plants

One good thing about having a solar farm, is you don't have to gas up the tractor, have a bunch of employees or do any maintenance on anything involving farming.

According to WOOD, Consumers Energy wants to partner with landowners all across Michigan, especially in rural and agricultural areas to create clean energy.

Consumers are looking for somewhere 500 to 900 acres to turn into solar farms or parks.
