P.J. Hoffmaster State Park in Muskegon Is a Fav For Beach Goers
If you are looking to spend a day or weekend this summer on the beach of Lake Michigan, check out P.J. Hoffmaster State Park there is something for everyone.
P. J. Hoffmaster State Park
It has been a couple of years since I went to P.J. Hoffmaster State Park but it has always been a favorite of mine since moving back to West Michigan.
One thing I love about Hoffmaster Beach is there is always plenty of room on the beach. A lot of times my son and I will park in the very back lot that is close to a trail that has a great hike before you get to the beach. This little trail puts you north of the beach if you like a little more space to yourself.
There are 3 miles of beach at the park and 10 miles of trails that run through Hoffmaster State Park which provides a nice walk for those of any age.
The trails at Hoffmaster State Park are very well marked.
If you need a break or just want to enjoy some of the scenery there are benches all throughout the 10 miles of trails in the park.
One of the popular spots at the park is the dune climb that is alongside the Dune Overlook Trail.
Hoffmaster Beach
Hoffmaster Beach has a huge parking lot. There is a very large area for family picnics and big gatherings. The picnic area was packed this past weekend but everyone had lots of room in their areas.
Before you enter the beach there are changing rooms and bathrooms which are very handy and easy to get to. When you leave the beach there is a water sprayer that is behind the bathrooms to knock the sand off of you before you get back to your vehicle.
Just before you enter the beach there is a little lookout over Hoffmaster Beach that also has a flag that lets you know if the water conditions are safe to swim in. We had a yellow flag on Sunday so we had fun in the water but didn't go too far out.
So if you want to have a great day or weekend at the beach, don't forget about P.J. Hoffmaster State Park.
