Plan Now for a Fireworks-Free 4th of July at Michigan State Parks

Not everyone loves fireworks on the Fourth of July. Several Michigan State Parks are catering to those looking for a quieter way to celebrate Independence Day.

Veterans, families with young children and pet owners are among those who sometimes enjoy being away from the loud celebrations on July 4.

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources says the following state parks are offering quieter options this year:

• Bewabic State Park (Iron County)
• Lake Hudson Recreation Area (Lenawee County)
• Rifle River Recreation Area (Ogemaw County)
• Hayes State Park (Lenawee County)
• Cheboygan State Park (Cheboygan County)
• Wells State Park (Menominee County)
• Leelanau State Park (Leelanau County)
• Sleepy Hollow State Park (Clinton County)
• Brighton Recreation Area-Bishop Lake Campground (Livingston County)
• Craig Lake State Park (Baraga County)

It should be noted that there is no guarantee that fireworks will not be set off near the state parks. Aerial fireworks are never allowed in Michigan state parks, but smaller fireworks including fountains, sparklers and ground spinners are still allowed. Those looking for quiet camping can secure locations that are farther away from traditional fireworks sites.
