Police Search for Missing 18-Year-Old GVSU Student Last Seen on MSU Campus
Authorities are searching for 18-year-old Grand Valley State University student Brendan Santo who went missing while visiting friends at Michigan State University.
Santo was last seen leaving Yakeley Hall on MSU's East Lansing campus just before midnight Friday, Oct 29. He was on foot and may have been headed to the Brody Neighborhood approximately half a mile away.
Wood TV 8 reports a dive team was searching Red Cedar River Monday evening.
MSU police, Michigan State Police, and the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office are involved in the search which has been conducted on foot, by helicopter, drone, and boat.
Santo, who is originally from Detroit area, is described as 5 ’10” and weighing 160 pounds. He last seen in gray sweatpants, a black t-shirt, a black baseball hat, and white converse high-top shoes.
According to a release from MSU Police, anyone who had contact or spoke with Santo during his visit to the college has been interviewed by police. Santos' vehicle has been located and authorities believe he is still in the area.
GVSU released the below statement Monday:
Officials from GVSU and MSU have been in continual contact beginning this weekend. President Mantella has spoken to the Santo family to express the university’s concern and care, and our housing and counseling staffs have been working with Brendan’s roommates and friends. The Grand Valley Police Department and the Michigan State Police are remaining in close touch as the search continues. This is obviously a stressful time, and our hearts are with those closest to Brendan.
