RECALL ALERT: Drawer Chest Sold Online at Walmart, Target & Amazon After 1 Death
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a recall of a chest of drawers because of serious tipping which has resulted in one death.
The three-drawer chest is made by South Shore Furniture and was sold online at Walmart.com, Target.com, & Amazon.com. The chest is said to be unstable if not anchored against a wall
posing serious tip-over and entrapment hazards that can result in death or injuries to children.
Which is exactly what happened. The company received two reports regarding tip-overs. One where the chest tipped over on a 3-year-old, causing scratches and bruises and the other resulted in the death of a 2-year-old.
310,000 of these Libra style 3-drawer chests are being recalled in the U.S. and include all nine (9) colors. They were sold between October 2009 and July 2018 for about $60.
If you have this chest, and it's not properly anchored to the wall, you can do one of three things:
- Return for a refund (with free pickup)
- Receive a free tip-over restraint kit with a free in-home installation of the kit; or
- Remove & mail drawer slips for a full refund.
