Russell Simmons Thinks President Trump’s Muslim Ban Is Shameful
President Trump is only a little over a week into his presidency, but he's already making waves. As one of his first executive orders since officially being POTUS, the former reality show star set a ban on Muslim refugees from certain countries from entering the U.S. On Saturday (Jan. 28), a federal judge issued an emergency stay for citizens in transit from the affected countries who already hold valid visas, but Trump has already shown that he is willing to put his racially and religiously intolerant plans into action. People all across the country are pissed, including Russell Simmons.
The Def Jam co-founder recently hopped on Twitter to express his disdain for Trump's decision. "I have worked for decades on religious tolerance," he wrote. "@realDonaldTrump’s Muslim ban is against everything this country was founded on. Shameful."
Despite knowing The Donald closely for more than 30 years, Russ has been one of the neophyte politician's biggest critics. Shortly after Trump beat out Hillary Clinton for the presidential seat, Simmons penned an open letter to the then president-elect warning against his attempts racial and religiously divide the country.
“While I disagree with many of the things that you have said during your campaign and many of your policies that you have proposed, you will still be our president, and I am willing to work for and with you,” Simmons wrote.
“Donald, you cannot target a religious group of people,” he added. “That is dangerous. You cannot separate families and deport people who have only known this country as their home. That is immoral."
We guess Trump didn't get the message.
