Saturday April 27 is National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day and all 30 Michigan State Police posts are serving as drop-off points.

MSP are encouraging residents to dispose of expired, unused and unwanted pills 10a.m. to 2p.m this Saturday.

According to a release, all collected pills will be destroyed, with no questions asked. Liquids, inhalers, patches and syringes cannot be accepted.

Col. Joe Gasper, director of the Michigan State Police, said,

“Taking a few minutes to go through your home and discard these medications is something small that can have a huge impact. The devastation caused by opioid and prescription drug abuse, accidental poisonings and overdoses is real. We urge you to do all you can to help us fight this crisis.”

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is two times a year, in April and October.

In October 2018, MSP reports that posts collected nearly 950 pounds of prescription drugs.

You can find Michigan State Police collection sites here.

MSP also says that anyone who cannot participate this Saturday can anonymously drop off prescription drugs at any post Monday through Friday 8a.m. to 4p.m., excluding holidays.
