Silent March Protest Happening Downtown Grand Rapids Saturday
A silent march is scheduled downtown Grand Rapids Saturday in protest of police brutality against African Americans and the recent killings of three black people, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery, Fox 17 reports.
According to the Facebook Event, the march will begin at 6p.m. at Rosa Park Circle. Masks are required and participants are asked to maintain safe social distance.
The silent march comes after protests all over the country following the killing of George Floyd by Minneapolis police officer, George Chauvin. Chauvin was arrested Friday.
Wood TV 8 reports that protests are also planned in Kalamazoo Saturday, one beginning at 6 p.m. at the Kalamazoo Mall, another at 12 p.m. in front of the Kalamazoo Court House.
All of the protests set to happened Saturday are described are said to be peaceful.
According to Fox 17, the Grand Rapids Police Department released the following statement on the rallies:
“The GRPD stands ready to serve our community by protecting and respecting everyone’s rights to free expression while maintaining a safe and secure city for all.”
