Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre's 25-year relationship started with Snoop giving Dre the dial tone, the dynamic duo revealed in the latest clip from Dre and Jimmy Iovine's upcoming HBO docu-series, Defiant Ones.

As the story goes, Dre was put on to the Doggfather's music by his step-brother, Warren G. But when the super producer first reached out to link up with the Long Beach MC, the call didn't go as planned. "I hung up, like nigga this ain't no motherfuckin' Dr. Dre," Snoop recalls. "[Dre] called back like, 'Nigga, be at the studio, Monday.'"

According to Dre, that studio session led to him his materializing his debut solo album, The Chronic, which Snoop ended up being all over. Thank God for Dre's persistence. Can you fathom the butterfly effect in hip-hop history that would have occurred if Dre had never called back and the two had never linked up?

Earlier this week, another trailer from the upcoming documentary, which is directed by Allen Hughes and will detail Dre and Jimmy's working relationship, hit the 'Net. That one features, Eminem, among others, describing the duo. “Jimmy Iovine is the levitator, Dre is the innovator,” ‘Em says in the clip.

HBO will premiere the first installment of the four-part series on July 9. Also making cameos in the doc are Bono, David Geffen, Nas, Ice Cube, Gwen Stefani, Jon Landau, Tom Petty, Trent Reznor, Bruce Springsteen and will.i.am.
