Rumors spread, yesterday. This afternoon, the University of Michigan made it official. Lionel Messi and FC Barcelona will play SSC Napoli at Michigan Stadium this summer.

The match will be part of the inaugural LaLiga-Serie A Cup that includes a Saturday, August 10, match at Michigan Stadium at 5:00 p.m.

The official press release makes no mention of Messi, only that both clubs will be bringing their first teams, but we're going to assume he will make the trip, barring injury, to avoid disappointing 100,000'ish fans.

Michigan Stadium holds the record for the largest crowd to ever see a soccer match in the United States. 109,318 people saw Manchester United vs. Real Madrid on Aug. 3, 2014.

The crowd for this game could challenge that record.

Michigan Stadium also hosted Real Madrid vs. Chelsea in 2016 and Manchester United vs. Liverpool in 2018.

Ticket prices start at $45. Ticket pre-sales begin on June 25 at 8:30 a.m. Tickets go on sale to the public on June 28 at 8:30 a.m.
