You know it is officially spring in Michigan once you hear the tornado sirens being tested. And this year's first statewide tornado drill is planned for Wednesday.

It is currently Severe Weather Awareness Week in Michigan and that means it is no better time than now to do the first tornado drill of the season. On Wednesday, March 24th at 1pm, there will be a statewide tornado drill that involves radio and TV stations and some weather warning sirens.

Michigan.gov has a page on their website with tips on how to prepare for severe weather. The page includes guides on the following information:

  • Campus community emergency preparedness guide
  • Emergency kit checklist
  • Pet preparedness guide
  • Family preparedness guide
  • Community preparedness guide

With COVID-19 and the pandemic still on everyone's mind and our state still taking precautions to keep the infection rate low, the Michigan government wants to remind citizens that we should also always stay prepared for severe weather.

You can learn more about Severe Weather Awareness Week and the tornado drill, you can find all the information at Michigan.gov/MIReady.
