T-Pain Sues Young Money for Unpaid Royalties From ‘Tha Carter III’ Album
T-Pain might have finally dropped his previously dormant joint effort with Lil Wayne, but things might not be all that peachy between the two rappers. According to TMZ, the Auto-tune pioneer has recently sued the Young Money boss for unpaid royalties from his contributions to Tha Carter III album. The suit is asking for $500,000.
The celeb gossip site reports that T-Pain believes he's owed some dough because he produced Weezy's single "Got Money," and his artist, Young Fyre, is also owed $500,000 after producing Wayne's Carter IV track, "How to Hate." Needless to say, T-Pain's asking for a pretty big chunk of change—but there's at least a decent chance it's not all that crazy.
In some documents obtained by the site, royalties were supposed to come along after T-Pain made his contributions to the project. After all, Tha Carter III has now gone platinum three times (in the U.S.) since being released nearly 10 years ago, and "Got Money" was one of the biggest tracks from the project.
When news of the lawsuit broke on social media, T-Pain tweeted some clarification about not suing Wayne specifically. "I'm obviously not suing my brother guys. Come on now," the singer wrote. "The story wouldn’t be juicy enough if they said Who I’m really suing because nobody knows that person so obviously they picked Wayne."
This isn't the first time it's happened, either. Last year, David Banner took home $160,000 after suing Young Money for allegedly failing to pay him royalties on Tha Carter III tracks “La La" and “Pussy Monster.”
