Kalamazoo police say at least two people have died after what appears to have been a murder-suicide.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says that around 10:45pm Monday, they were called to the Walgreens at Riverview and Gull Rd, where two young women said they were trying to find their uncle. When the uncle was located, officers learned that a family member of theirs had just driven her vehicle into the Kalamazoo River, with her two children inside.
Officers started searching the area, and a squad with a patrol boat looked around the area of Verburg Park off of Paterson St. Within a few minutes, officers found the submerged vehicle, and a little after that two victims were located. The Kalamazoo Forensics Crime Lab was called to investigate the scene, and the Michigan State Police Dive team responded to search for a possible third victim and to recover the vehicle.
The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says they offer their "condolences to all family and friends who have been impacted by this tragic loss."
We will update this story as more information comes in regarding the situation, and if and when the third victim is located.
