Tyrese Gets Joint Custody of Daughter After Lengthy Court Battle [PHOTO]
A judge has denied Norma Gibson’s request for a restraining order against ex-husband Tyrese during a hearing on Friday (Nov. 17). The judge also reinstated the singer’s joint custody status with his 10-year-old daughter, Shayla.
Following the proceeding, Tyrese’s rep confirmed with People that the former couple have worked out a visitation agreement for the holidays. Reps for Norma Gibson had no comment on the matter.
The hearing ends Tyrese’s long drawn-out legal battle where he was accused of beating Shayla until she was unable to sit due to the pain. An investigation was soon launched but later closed by the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family Services after they found no evidence of abuse.
Tyrese has been documenting his child custody battle on his Instagram page as well as displaying some bizarre behavior on social media. In a seven-minute long tearful video, the singer wept openly while begging Norma not to take Shayla away from him. In response, Tyrese's ex-wife wants him to undergo a psychological evaluation.
After the judge’s ruling, Tyrese went on Instagram to further explain that his courtroom victory wasn’t a win for him, but rather a “win for our daughter.”
"It is a win because she gets to spend equal time with both of her parents in joint legal custody while she continues to grow in a happy and healthy environment – this has always been and will continue to be my priority," he wrote.
