Like the annual flu vaccination, a University of Michigan doctor says a COVID-19 booster shot will likely be needed once a year.

Once it was announced that a booster shot for COVID-19 is recommended, I thought this may be how it's going to be moving forward, and a U of M doctor has confirmed my suspicions.

According to FOX 17, University of Michigan professor of epidemiology and global health, Dr. Arnold Monto said, "We think this is going to protect you through the winter season at least."

We Michiganders need all the protection we can get against COVID-19 throughout the winters months, especially with so many out there who have not been vaccinated. Most events are held indoors, we do our shopping indoors, we go to church indoors, we go to school indoors, so there are lots of ways to catch COVID-19.

I have not gotten my booster shot yet but I hope to get an appointment soon. I am shooting for a Friday after work or an early Saturday morning appointment. My second shot had me down a day and I missed a day of work and I don't need to miss any work from trying not to get sick.

My dad has gotten his booster and I'm sure my mom is not far behind. I'm looking at January to get mine since my second vaccination wasn't until May of 2021. That is based on doctors recommending you get your booster 9 months after your second shot.

Some people still refuse to get vaccinated. I really find that hard to believe and here's why. If you attend school in the state of Michigan, here is a list of shots you had to get before going to school:

  • Diphtheria
  • Tetanus
  • Pertussis
  • Measles
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Polio
  • Hepatitis B
  • Meningococcal
  • Varicella (Chickenpox)

Here is a link to a more specific list of shots you received to go to school in Michigan.

What blows my mind is those who have refused the COVID-19 vaccine have all had those shots above and if they have kids, had their kids vaccinated with those as well. So why not COVID-19?

The COVID-19 vaccine and booster shots are to keep people safe, not just you and your family, all families.

So if you have gotten the Johnson and Johnson shot, you need to get in to get a booster shot. If you have gotten the Moderna or Pzifer vaccine you can get your booster as early as six months after your second vaccination.

Just remember, none of these doctors are running for election or craving power, they just want to help you and me.
