Vintage Store Started by College Besties, Second Vibess, Receives $20K to Support Local Grand Rapids Shop
I have wanted to mention this business for a while now.
Back in August, I had the pleasure of attending this business' storefront grand opening. I bought one of my favorite pairs of pants from this store.
Only one month later, Second Vibess is continuing to show why this business is amazing.
This past Wednesday, the Grand Rapids Downtown Development Authority approved Second Vibess for a retail innovation grant.
The vintage store was given $20,250 in funding will help pay for their storefront rent for 18 months!
Second Vibess is a women and minority-owned "reworked & sustainable slow fashion" and vintage clothing store.
According to the website, Second Vibess' mission is:
"As owners, we have a passion for curating and up-cycling sustainable materials. We thrive off of giving a unique piece of a new home. As a business, we realize our footprint on this earth and strive to create and promote a cleaner plant, for us all!"

Camille Steverson and Kaitlynn Fitzpatrick, the owners of Second Vibess, were college roommates.
Through their mutual love of thrifting and living a sustainable life, the two women created Second Vibess.
In March of 2019, Steverson and Fitzpatrick started their Instagram account. Fitzpatrick told the GRDDA about how the COVID pandemic affected their business.
"And then COVID hit, so that kind of stopped our plans for a while because we couldn't go thrift or do any of the things that we normally were doing for Second Vibess. But over that time, we decided we wanted to take Second Vibess more seriously and it kind of gave us more of an opportunity to focus on it as a career instead of just a side hustle in college."
After almost two years of being a popup shop, they officially landed at 13 S. Division Avenue.
As of now, Second Vibess also features several other small businesses throughout the store.
The owners plan to expand to feature more small businesses and in-person events in the near future.
