WATCH: Battle Creek Officer Helps Nab Fleeing Suspect During TV Interview
A fleeing suspect was in the wrong place at the wrong time, while a Battle Creek police officer and television news crew were at the right place at the right time. On Monday afternoon WWMT NewsChannel 3 reporter Brittany Gray was interviewing an officer outside of the police station when a suspect who was in custody managed to escape and try to run away while still in handcuffs.
The suspect reportedly scaled a six foot fence and happened to run near where the television interview was taking place. That's when several officers, along with the one being interviewed, were able to thwart the escape and tackle the 42-year-old man. Even Gray put down her microphone and tried to chase the suspect too when that unexpected interruption occurred.
The suspect had been arrested in connection to a home invasion that happened in Battle Creek Saturday. He is also being investigated in connection to several similar break-ins around the city over the last two weeks.
