An era had come to an end in Michigan when Art Van Furniture announced they were going out of business. The furniture store has been a staple in the state since 1959 so it was a loss felt among us all.

Now, a few months later, it's been revealed that Art Van will reopen as Loves Furniture, a modern furniture company founded earlier this year. According to ClickOnDetroit, the company acquired 27 furniture stores across the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic. 17 of those are Art Van stores in Michigan and Loves also plans on basing their headquarters in Royal Oak.

The 17 stores to change are:

  • Ann Arbor
  • Battle Creek
  • Bay City
  • Burton
  • Howell
  • Livonia
  • Muskegon
  • Petoskey
  • Port Huron
  • Portage
  • Royal Oak
  • Saginaw
  • Shelby Township
  • Taylor
  • Warren
  • Waterford Township
  • Westland

There was an Art Van Furniture on 28th St. in Grand Rapids so it's unknown what's going to happen to that one.

The company plans on hiring 1,000+ people across the region and say this is an opportunity for people who previously lost their jobs due to closures... and now with the pandemic.

Loves Furniture plans on doing a soft opening in the next coming weeks at some locations.

Loves says they plan on standing out from competitors by giving a more personalized shopping experience to the customer.
