A change is coming to the downtown Grand Rapids' skyline.

Fox 17 reports that the Amway Grand Plaza Tower is getting A $40 million renovation next year.

The tower is getting new, lighter colored glass that is reflective and more energy efficient. Amway says the slope at the top of the tower will stay, but the building will get a little taller. Hotel rooms will also feature floor to ceiling windows.

If you're on the ground looking up, the tower will appear lighter; from inside it will be more transparent.

Work is supposed to start immediately in the new year and wrap in April of 2021. The company says only about 50 of the hotel's 682 rooms will be closed during the construction.
